No external power is needed! The IR-210U adapter is fully compatible with Windows 98, 98SE, ME, XP & Windows 2000. The Actisys IR-210U is bundled with the Windows' drivers... allows wireless data communication between desktops and laptops to other computers, PDAs, IrDA digital cameras, IrDA printers, most infrared digital connect cellular phones, data terminals, mobile medical units and other portable or industrial IrDA devices to any Windows PC with plug-and-play simplicity. Fully compliant with USB spec. 1.0 and 1.1 and IrDA spec. 1.1 - data rates of 9.6/19.2/38.4/57.6/115.2 Kbps and 4 Mbps. Reliable communication distance of 3 cm to 100 cm (1 inch to 3 + feet). Fully USB bus-powered device.
